  • EASTERN REGIONAL FDA TIGHTENS THEIR ENFORCEMENT ACTIVITIES

The Eastern Regional Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) says it is going to strengthen their enforcement mandate within the region by organizing regular Post Market Surveillance (PMS) on all regulated products to ensure public health and safety and prevent the sale of unregistered and non confirming products.

During a post market surveillance at Nkawkaw and its surroundings within the region, a team of Senior Regulatory Officers with enforcement units of the Authority visited a number of pharmacies, cold and dry storage facilities to check for expired and unregistered products.

The team recalled all unregistered products that were found displayed on the shelves for sale to the public and issued seizure and detention notes on them in order to maximize public safety on all products.

The Regional Head, Mr. Samuel Kwakye used the opportunity to caution business operators who are operating under the purview of the FDA and are engaged in the sales of their unregistered products to desist from such illegality and adhere to the requirements of the Law so as to avoid the regulatory sanctions of the FDA.

Mr Kwakye admonished business operators without warehouse and facility license to immediately start registration processes with the FDA. He said safety precautions must be ensured. He added that to provide consumers with the safe and quality products, the Authority's monitoring and surveillance exercise is not ending soon, unless people who are engaged in all manner of illegality are either corrected or brought to face the law.

He advised the general public to only purchase product approved by FDA and ensure they buy from the right source in order to avoid risking or endangering their lives.

He assured the general public of the FDA's commitment to ensure compliance of the law by people who are engaged in production, importation and sale of all FDA regulated products across the region and Ghana.
